Vocal Awareness: Lessons in Authenticity

//Vocal Awareness: Lessons in Authenticity

We know it when we see it. We know it when we feel it. We know it because it’s real. It’s authentic. I’m talking about the experience when we meet, greet and work with people. We can tell when a conversation is forced, fake, superficial. And we know it when it’s real. It touches our hearts, our souls and resonates in every fiber of our being. When Cara & I had the opportunity to work with Arthur Joseph, it was an experience of a lifetime and an emotional rollercoaster for two days.
The first day I learned that I had a lot to learn. Like my students in corporate leadership programs, the second level of learning – conscious incompetence – hits like a brick to the head. I learned what I didn’t know and knew there were many days, weeks, months, and years of practice ahead. (I recalled the book, Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, and winced at 10,000 hours of practice!) Cara, however, was energized by what she experienced the first day: the power of her voice, owning her power, seeing and feeling the change in her voice and throughout her body was exhilarating for her. Literally, I could see her visage change. Masks are removed with Vocal Awareness. With courage and Arthur’s brilliant coaching, we see and feel what it means to connect with others. If windows are the eyes to the soul, the voice lets the soul come out. Truly, our time spent with Arthur was a powerful, life-changing experience.
The second day was a reward for my practice. I felt more able to own my voice, my power and with conscious intention, breathe, and pay attention with deeper listening. More importantly, I learned to be My Self. And that is the gift of a lifetime.
